Dragon Boating is a physically demanding team sport, and both the Hong Kong Police and Hong Kong Marine Police continue to have highly competitive teams. Operation Breakthrough Dragon Boat is now in its third year, and going from strength to strength.​

 

Youths who would benefit from the program are all referred to us by the Hong Kong Christian Services and are all orphans under their care. They are of both sexes and varying ages.

 

The aggressive and disciplined nature of the sport lends itself to the objectives of Operation Breakthrough. The young paddlers thrown together in a dragon boat crew, and in the company of adult volunteers, quickly bond to the activity, and as they gain physical fitness also gain self esteem.  

 

The Team continues to enter local competitions which add targets and objectives to the training, but it is not all strict discipline as Breakthrough Dragon Boat includes a strong social element with the opportunity to socialise at regular BBQs. Fresh funding support in 2011 has secured the immediate future and development of the activity and a generous donation by Round Table has enabled to club to buy its first purpose built boat.
