ABOUT BREAKTHROUGH
![]()
The Breakthrough bus was donated to Operation Breakthrough as a result of our participation in the Christmas 2004-2005 Operation Santa Claus appeal. We were one of 12 local charities to benefit from the appeal and since a bus was on our wishlist, UBS kindly donated $200,000 towards the cost of a bus. Operation Breakthrough used this amount to purchase a second-hand 24 seater bus, and then applied for appropriate licences from the Transport Department. The bus is driven by two retired Police drivers.
The bus is used six days a week to transport disadvantaged boys and girls from their home Districts to participate in Breakthrough activities. With boxing taking place in Tai Po, rugby in Mong Kok, soccer in Kowloon City and dancing in Tsz Wan Shan, but with many of our boys and girls living in the New Territories, the bus regularly shuttles between Yuen Long and Tuen Mun and these four locations. Where there is insufficient capacity for the boys / girls involved, additional buses are hired from private bus companies.
