Rugby Weekly Update

Last weekend Breakthrough rugby activities go back underway with the girls touch on Friday night at Happy Valley. We won our shield semi-final and are now in the final, this Friday, 16 January, 8pm at the Valley. I could tell you about the great play and this being the result of all our practice eventually paying off but in all honesty we got a walk-over as the opposition didn’t front. But never mind the girls are very excited about being in the final and your support would be great if you are down that way on Friday.

The last Sunday the U16s were in action against Twisters and unfortunately Twisters only turned up with 10 players so we claimed a 20 – 0 win as far as the league was concerned and played a friendly, lending them 5 players so we could play 15-a-side. We had a good hit out and it gave us the opportunity to start many of the new boys. Despite not having played together and in the case of some, not having played before, things went very well. The rucking and mauling was particularly impressive and the training they have received here was evident. The scrums and line-outs were not so good, but that was to be expected in the circumstances. We won the friendly 36-20 and everyone had a lot of fun, which is what it is all about.

This week we have training tomorrow night, which despite the cold weather and that many of the schools have exams, numbers have been good. Then on Sunday 18th we have two games. In some great planning we have the U19s v DBP at Tin Shiu Wai at 3pm KO. This will be a hard match as the Pirates are a very good team, but there is no reason why we can’t win, if we can get a full team out. Then we have the U16s v FK/TSW at Happy Valley on pitch 8 at 3.45pm, which is again a match we can win. I am yet to decide which game I will watch, but if anyone is at the Valley or up in the wilds of Tin Siu Wai, there is a good game in store.

Below is a picture of last week’s U16 squad.
