Rugby weekly update
This week we were in action at Tin Siu Wai and Tai Hang Tung. At Tin Siu Wai the U14s had a 10-a-side tournament beating Kowloon 10 – 7 and HKU 15 – 5, but losing to Valley 14 – 10. They played some great rugby and all had a lot of fun. Most of them had not played till this season and they have come on leaps and bounds, which is great to see.
At Tai Hang Tung the U19 1st team were in action against Valley 1sts. The Valley team are very strong and we gave them too much space in the first half, standing of a little too far. With their speed and strong running, Valley made us pay and we went into the break 48 – 0 down. We were competitive but when we missed the tackle we paid every time. The coaches gave the boys a firm talking to and the lads responded well and picked things up, fought hard and although we were punished when we missed the odd tackle the second half finished 16 – 12 to Valley and showed once again that we can be competitive in the first division. We may have lost 64 – 12 but the spirit shown in the second half made me proud and was in marked contrast to our opponents of a few weeks ago, who chose to walk off.
Next weekend on 28 February we have two games at the Police Club and the girls have sevens action.

Girls Sevens action at Happy Valley starting at 2pm.
This season due to a few problems we did not hold our usual Christmas Party, so we are instead holding a welcome to the year of the Monkey party next Sunday at the Police Club at 4.30pm after all the games. My thanks to Alex at Canterbury for the donation of some nice kit to give away to the boys and girls. If anyone wants to come at watch the rugby and attend the party they would be welcome.
Finally the Sevens is not that far away and as you can see from the attached flyer the Police Rugby Club and Scottish Rugby are hosting a charity dinner on the Tuesday 5 April. The charity is of course Breakthrough. So if anyone fancies listening to Al Kellock and the Police Pipe Band as well as the opportunity to meet the Scottish Sevens team, this is for you.
