Rugby Weekly Update

Last weekend we had no matches but used the free Sunday for an extra training session at the Police Club. The club is still under decoration but some of the pitch is available for training. We had about 50 odd boys and girls there and were able to run through a lot of skills. We also used the occasion to issue kit to everyone for the new season, which is provided by our main sponsor Standard Chartered Bank.

However the boys and girls were also very lucky to all get a Harlequins rugby jersey each. Harlequins are sponsored by DHL, who are also linked up with the Laureus Group, another keen supporter of Breakthrough. So DHL kindly offered us some of their new shirts to distribute to the kids. Gary Kemp from DHL came along a distributed the shirts before scrumming down with Ken and I against all the kids!

It was a busy Sunday for 8 boys and girls who completed the mini rugby coaching course in the morning, which is the first step on their way to getting fully trained up as a rugby coach. Apart from Gunny, our head coach, all our coaches Tank, Ivan, Pun Pun and Andy are all ex-Breakthrough boys and during the summer course we run over the recent school holidays we were able to use another 5 who have been trained up.

This week we have two game on Sunday 2 November at Causeway Bay in Victoria Park. It is not in the main bit but on the same side of the road as the HK Library, next to Library. The nearest MTR is Tin Hau.

Kick-off is 10:00 am and we are playing Aberdeen/Causeway Bay, which should be a competitive fixture. We don’t often play on HK side, so it could be a good opportunity to see the boys in action, if you live on the Island.
