Updates from Rugby

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and staying out of trouble.

Breakthrough training has been continuing and we have our first games this weekend, both at the HKRFU Tin Siu Wai pitch on Sunday 5 October. A long way for most to travel, but there should be two entertaining games for those who can make it. First up are the U16s at 3pm and then the U19s at 4.15pm. Both matches are against East Kowloon. The U16 game will be interesting as only a few of the boys have played rugby before but the U19s are a good mix of some old hands and most of last year’s U16 team. Hang Jai and Monkey Jai who both went off to DEA last year have decided to play for us again this year and with their leadership I am hoping for a big year for them. Of course we also have Ken fresh from his exploits in Sri Lanka.

The HK U20 team did well in Sri Lanka. “After sweeping aside both Chinese Taipei and hosts Sri Lanka the Koreans stood in the way of Hong Kong’s goal and talk about saving the best ‘til last! Our young Hong Kong stars demolished their Korean counterparts in a powerful disciplined display that saw us come through a resounding 57-8 victors. The stats for the whole tournament are just as impressive as the final result. In three games we scored 134 points, conceding only 19! A marvellous effort by everyone involved.” I haven’t had a chance to speak with Ken but hopefully he had the chance to get on the pitch a bit and will be in contention for selection to the finals in Portugal next year.
