Rugby weekly update

Well not a very good week last week for Breakthrough.

On the Friday night, we again lost both our girls touch games, but Gunny tells me they played much better and nearly won, one of the two games. They had a lot of fun, so that was good.

On Sunday, the U16s kicked off at Tin Sui Wai against the Flying Kukri/Tin Siu Wai combined team and we had a rare first - two parents in attendance to watch, which was great. The rugby started badly and we went 14-0 down in the first 5 minutes, but then we started to tackle, won some ball and thanks to some fine moves we were leading 17-14 at half time. In the second half we traded scores and thanks to some wonderful kicking from young Stephen, were leading 31-26 with just three minutes to go. Unfortunately we then forgot how to tackle and they scored two quick tries to run out 38-31 winners. The lads were bitterly disappointed, as you can imagine, but I am even more hopeful, that we will get that first win before or at least just after Christmas. The other major disappointment was that one of the lads fell heavily in a tackle and got concussed. He was out for a few minutes and to make it more unfortunate, he was one of the boys who Mum had come to watch. He went to hospital and was admitted for 48hrs observation. He is fine now and Ivan has spoken with his Mum, who we are hoping, will let him continue his rugby career !

The U19s were next on against Kowloon, at Tai Hang Tung and it was a very hard physical game, not dirty, just hard rugby played by some fit young lads who all wanted to win. We played well, but still our penalty count against us was far too high and with some missed tackles at important times and some injuries, we unfortunately lost 24-12. A disappointing result, which was not helped by injuries to three of our good players. First to go down was Chi Shing with a dislocated shoulder, but we got value out of the ambulance as just before it arrived Ah Ming, got dragged down when he looked clear and banged his head. Another concussion. Then with about 10 minutes to go Ah Man did his knee in, in what is likely to be an ACL, so the Ambulance had to return for a second visit. Ah Ming got 48hrs observation but Chi Shing’s shoulder was put back and he is just nursing a sore shoulder. Poor old Ah Man is waiting for an MRI, which we hope to organise soon for him.

So with all the loses and injuries you can appreciate why I say it was not a good week.

This Friday, 5 December 2014, we have two more touch games for the girls at Happy Valley. One at 8pm and the other at 9pm. Then on Sunday we have another of our days with the Tuen Mun Boys Home. It is at the Police Club and starts at 12.15 and will finish around 3.30pm, so if anyone wants to pop down and watch they would be welcome. We currently have a few lads from the boys home playing for us regularly now they have been discharged and one of them is starring for the U16s. He is a big second row, who can run fast, and he scored two tries in the last match, so the link up here is going well.

Still looking for a few gifts for the Christmas party on 21 December, for the raffle. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
