    Rugby Weekly Update

Well this week was certainly better than last, although it didn’t start so well.

On Friday night the girls again lost their two touch games, but played well and they now go forward to the Shield semi-final on 9 January 2015. Unfortunately the gremlins were out and one poor girl twisted her ankle when going for a large side step. Another trip to hospital, but fortunately nothing was broken and she will hopefully be fit for our semi-final after Christmas. I bet you never realized touch rugby good be so dangerous!

Today we had an afternoon of touch with the boys from Tuen Mun Boys Home. After Gunny introduced them to tackling, contact rugby and they hit the tackle pads.We got down to some serious but fun touch. The Tuen Mun Boys have some very quick lads and things were very even in all the games. It was a good opportunity for some of the Breakthrough boys who don’t get a lot of game time to see some action along with a few of the girls. Afterwards we adjourned for some food and drinks and it is hoped that some of the Tuen Mun boys will join us when they leave the home over the next month or so. We now have four ex-Tuen Mun boys playing regularly and the current boys seemed interested to hear how much they were enjoying playing contact rugby, so I am hopefully we will attract a few more. Below are a few photos of the day.

Robbie tells me that he attended the Sir Ellis Kadoorie School Speech Day last Friday and the Athlete of the Year was our own Ken Encarnacion, who recently went with the HK U18 team to Sri Lanka and hopefully will be with the team going to Portugal next summer, which was nice to hear.

Next Sunday (14/12) we just have the U19s in action with a 10am Kick Off against FC at the Causeway Bay Pitch. Our biggest problem will be ensuring the lads get to bed early on Saturday as it will be an early start for the Tin Sui Wai boys.

Many thanks to Mike Horner and Martin Downey for their generosity in ensuring we will have some nice gifts at the Christmas bash on 21/12.
