Rugby Weekly Update

This weekend we just had the one game and the early start proved to be our undoing. The 10am kick off at Causeway Bay, requiring a very early start from Tin Siu Wai and an early start from Wong Tai Sin, proved too much for many of the boys and they were still half asleep when we kicked off against Football Club II in our U19 fixture. Poor tackling and basically a lack of belief in themselves meant that we were always on the back foot and we were 41-0 behind at half time. However Gunny gave them all a very stern half time talk and pointed out a few basic errors and a different team took the park in the second half, which we won 10-7. If only they had played like that from the start, instead of losing 48-10, we could have won and it is not often you can say that when on the end of a score like that. Another positive was that no one got injured and hopefully after the Christmas break we will nearly be back to full strength.

Next week sees training on Wednesday and then the Christmas Party on Sunday 21/12 at the Police Club in Mong Kok. Between 12 and 3pm Ivan has organised a touch tournament amongst ourselves and then we will adjourn to club for some food, drinks and a visit from Santa, if they are good!! If any of you feel like popping in, you would be welcome.

We will then be having a two week break for Christmas and New Year, as our normal Wednesday training will fall on 24 and 31 December. So may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Also I would remind you that New Year’s Day at Football Club sees the Annual Youth Rugby Tournament, with boys and girls rugby from U12 to U19. It is a great way to recover from the excesses of the night before and hopefully we will have some Breakthrough lads involved. It lasts all day and the rugby is usually very good.
