Rugby Weekly Update

Well only one game today, which was played in the cold and rain at the Police Club. The U16s were playing the Aberdeen/Valley combined team and what a cracker it was. If you remember the last time they played the U16s were thrashed hardly making one decent tackle all day. Well Ivan and Gunny have obviously been putting them through some hard practice and although they missed a few, they made far more and really defended well when they had to. Our Number 8 even got a yellow card for what the ref claimed was a dump tackle, but looked just like a very hard hit to me.

The match started well and we went 7-0 up thanks to a fine score from out full back who left a few opposition boys trailing in his wake. However Valley/Aberdeen managed to pin us down in our 22 for a couple of long periods and despite some strong defending, they eventually sneaked over a couple of times. We pulled one back thanks to some fancy back play, but their backs also got going and scored a good wingers try to make it 15-14 to them at the break. The second half was a bit stop/start thanks to a wet slippery ball and an inability by both sides to set a steady scrum, but both sides played well and again are defence was sold. Unfortunately they managed two scores to our one and it finished 27 – 19 to the opposition.

This week sees a break for Chinese New Year and then we are training on 25 Feb.

On 1 March the U19s are playing HKU but we will now have home advantage as it will be at the Police Club with a 1pm KO. The U16s may have a friendly, depending on our final league standing.

Looking further ahead we have a Sports Forum with Laureus, the International Sports Group, at the HK Sports Institute, followed by a boxing function/fund raiser on 6 March 2015. A copy of the Forum run down is attached below both in chinese and english. The Forum is by invitation only and if any of you wish to attend please let me know, and I will get you an invite. Marvellous Marvin Hagler and Dr Edwin Moses will be in attendance. I am afraid the boxing is sold out but if anyone is really keen to attend let me know and I will see what we can do. Hopefully these functions will get some good publicity for breakthrough and the use of sports in general to help youth in HK.

Hope you all have a Happy Chinese New Year and get lots of good luck and have some good fun. If any married people would like to join me at training on 25/2 the boys and girls will be most appreciative I am sure!! We normally get a good attendance that night.
