Rugby Weekly Update

Today was a busy one for us with the U19 girls playing in the next round of 7s games. The girls are in the U19 Division2 7s league and they had 4 games at Tin Siu Wai this morning. In the first series they lost all four games, but today they won one and lost three. Considering their opponents have been at it for much longer the 10-7 win against twisters was a great result and in the other three games, they only lost heavily once. So things are looking good and as you can see from the attached photo below they enjoyed themselves, which is what it is all about.

The U19 boys were however a disappointment. They didn’t really turn up today and in one of their worse performances in a long time we lost 44-12 to Sandy Bay. They had a couple of very useful centres who we failed to tackle early on, when we gave them far too much space, and they either scored or made 4 quick tries. The boys heads went down and the discipline went. We gave away loads of penalties and never seemed to try and understand what we were doing wrong and correct it. The referee wasn’t very good, but that is no excuse.

Next week we have training on Wednesday and then next Sunday both the U16s and U19s will be in action. Against who and where we will have to wait and see, when all the results of today’s games are in. I will circulate details towards the end of the week. These will be our last league/championship games so hopefully the boys will produce the effort that was lacking today.

March is a busy month for the rugby section with Sevens tournaments, a friendly match against an overseas school, a touch tournament against Tuen Mun Boys Home, the Kowloon Tens, a visit to the 7s and our tour to Singapore in early April over Easter.

For Breakthrough we have our sports forum next Friday. If anyone fancies attending there is still some space. Please contact me if you would like to go. In the evening we have a boxing dinner at the new Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, which promises to be great fun, with Marvellous Marvin Hagler in attendance and Sures having his third professional fight. I think that is sold out, but if anyone is very keen to attend let me know and I will see what I can do.
