OB Rugby team in Macau.

Yesterday saw Breakthrough trying something new with a trip to Macau for the Macau Tens. We had a little sponsorship leftover from the main tour at Easter and so when we were invited to take part we felt we should give it a go.

We caught the 8.30am ferry and arrived at the Canidrome just in time to kick the tournament off with a match against our old rivals Discovery Bay Pirates. Our usual slow start saw us 14 – 0 down in the first couple of minutes and that was how the score stayed. It was rather strange playing rugby whilst the main Canidrome inhabitants were taking their morning stroll (see attached photo below), but it added to the fun. On what was a very hot day at least the dogs got to return to their kennels, but our second match saw us take on Football Club, who had brought over their strongest team, with all their HK players. We held them till half time and then the flood gates opened and we lost 50-0. The next game was no better and we lost 34 – 0.

The boys were given a strong talking to as they clearly were not making the effort and they obviously listened. In the last game, again against Football Club we played really well, only losing 29-7. Our try, which was the only one scored against FC on the day was a cracker. Ah Cheung, snatched the ball from under their scrum half at a scrum on our own 5 yard line, sold a great dummy and then scampered the length of the pitch to score, just out sprinting their covering tackler.

The Tens-party was at the Hard Rock Hotel pool, which was a great experience for the boys. Some great food and good fun in the pool, which was most welcome after the heat all day at the Canidrome, before catching the 10.30pm ferry back to HK. It was a great learning experience for the boys on the rugby pitch and they all enjoyed the post rugby party, which is what it is all about.
