Rugby Weekly Update

The U14s and the girls were playing today at different ends of HK. First up the ladies won their match at Tin Siu Wai but unfortunately I have no further details. The U14 boys were playing at Sandy Bay against HKU3 and they started strongly scoring two good tries, but then a yellow card for a high tackle and a red card for arguing with the referee, took the wind out of their sails and we lost by four tries to two. We obviously need to work on their discipline next week. The U19 match was postponed due to the Warriors tour to the Philippines.

The U19 team fighting for a place in the World U20 Championships next year got their campaign of to a good start today with a 78-12 win over Chinese Taipei and I’m told MK scored a fine try. All three of our lads played well apparently and as you can see from the attached photo conditions were quite wet. Hang Jai is the lad with the blue undershirt and MK or Monkey is the smallest of the group. Not sure where Ken was.

Robbie sent me the second photo, which shows the winning school from the NT Schools A grade 7s tournament receiving their Trophy. The winning school was TWGHS and at least 5 of their seven are Breakthrough boys. In Kowloon the Choi Hung Catholic Secondary School came second, with also mostly Breakthrough lads. These competitions are obviously important to the boys as it helps give them respect and some positive recognition from both their fellow pupils and the staff.

Anyway next Sunday on 20/12 we have the U16s in action at the Police Club at 1.30pm against the Tsuen Wan, Tai Po, Causeway Bay combined team and the U19 2ndXV are up at 2.45pm against the same combination. With many of the boys being away on tour we have decided to go for a New Year party this year instead of our normal Christmas bash.
