Operation Breakthrough received The Joel Dunn Award
Operation Breakthrough received The Joel Dunn Award at the Hong Kong Rugby Union Annual Dinner which was held at Kerry hotel on 5th April 2019.
The Joel Dunn Award is presented in memory of the late Joel Dunn, an individual who as a player, coach and teacher made an exceptional contribution to the Hong Kong rugby community.
It honours an individual or group from the Hong Kong rugby community who have shown an outstanding display of character which embodies the true values of rugby - integrity, respect, solidarity, passion and discipline - and thereby have made an exceptional contribution to the Hong Kong rugby community.
Operation Breakthrough also received the Asian Rugby Award for Character, which had earlier been presented by the Asian RFU and received on behalf by the HKRU. Both award were accepted by OB rugby Director Steve Tarrant, Director John Carroll, Head coach Stuart Gunn, coach Tank Lam and several ex-Breakthrough boys who are now in the Police Force.
Steve Tarrant, who received the award on behalf of Breakthrough commented - “We are of course very grateful for all the help that the HKRU have given the Breakthrough rugby section over the years and are very grateful for this recognition by both them and the Asian RFU. I would like to add my thanks to everyone who helps me run the rugby section particularly, Gunny, Tank and Ivan, who all put in many hours to keep it going. Also our sponsors Standard Chartered Bank; the local rugby community, particularly Kowloon RFC and HK Football Club; Ageas Insurance International; Eccles and Lee and all our other generous supporters. However I would particularly like to thank all the boys and girls who have played rugby for Breakthrough over the nearly 20 years we have been going. This award is really a recognition of all their effort on the pitch and off it, which has done so much to promote the Breakthrough name as a successful charity that does make a difference.”
