This summer, Operation Breakthrough successfully hosted its highly anticipated annual Summer Adventure Camp at the Junior Police Call (JPC) Centre in Pat Heung. As one of our three hallmark adventure camps held each year, this intensive program brought our young participants together for an unforgettable weekend focused on character growth, physical endurance, and team unity.
Over the course of the weekend, the youth faced a diverse array of physical and mental challenges designed to build their self-confidence, teamwork, mutual respect, and leadership, while teaching them the valuable life skills of resilience and overcoming failure.
High-Octane Challenges: On the Field and In the Classroom
The camp itinerary pushed the participants to expand their limits through a carefully planned mix of outdoor grit and indoor strategy:
High-Ropes Course, Cargo Net, and Zip Line: Under the bright summer sun, participants strapped into safety harnesses to tackle towering high-ropes structures and cargo nets. These elements forced the youth to confront their fears, rely on their safety partners, and learn to find their footing after slipping—proving that setbacks are just steps toward reaching the top.
Precision Foot Drills: To build alignment and deep personal discipline, the camp incorporated traditional foot drills. Executing commands in perfect unison required sharp listening skills and instilled a profound sense of structure and respect for collective effort.
Classroom Puzzles and Team Challenges: Moving indoors, the focus shifted from physical stamina to mental agility. Teams were given complex puzzles that tested their logical thinking, communication skills, and collective brainpower under strict time constraints, requiring them to collaborate closely to find solutions.
群策群力，攜手同行: An Incredible Network of Mentors
The driving force behind this summer's camp was our exceptional volunteer team, operating under the ethos of "群策群力，攜手同行" (Uniting Forces, Walking Together). Our veteran mentors from Breakthrough’s boxing, dragon boat, rugby, running, and dance teams were joined by a phenomenal lineup of new volunteers from specialized and elite units across the Hong Kong Police Force, including:
Counter Terrorism Response Unit (CTRU)
Hong Kong Police College Instructors
Police Tactical Unit (PTU)
Emergency Unit New Territories (EUNT)
Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC)
To ensure maximum impact, our Breakthrough social workers conducted an in-depth briefing for the entire volunteer team. They explained the core service mission of Operation Breakthrough and shared the profound meaning behind this volunteer service, ensuring every mentor was fully aligned with the goal of supporting our youngsters.
On the field, these officers worked directly alongside the youth—sweating through grueling push-ups on the deck, offering encouragement from the ground, and acting as positive real-world role models.
Earned Rewards Under the Summer Sun
The camp also delivered simple but profound moments of shared joy. After an exhausting day of pushing through intense physical challenges under a blistering 33°C summer heat, the participants finally earned a well-deserved reward: cold treats and soft drinks.
Cooling down together after a long day of hard work, the youth felt a true sense of earned success. One of the participants beautifully summed up the experience, saying: “The treat after all the hard work tastes even nicer!” It was a perfect reflection of how sweet the rewards can be when earned through dedication and team perseverance.

By pairing structured athletic and adventure programs with passionate mentors, we continue our mission of crime prevention and youth empowerment—guiding the next generation toward a positive, confident, and successful future.
