Rugby weekly Update
Firstly some more good news. So far we have had 7 Breakthrough rugby lads become police officers, four of them this year and I am pleased to tell you that M. K. Chung (aka Monkey – the eldest of the three brothers who have played for us) is starting at the Police College tomorrow. He had recently started as one of our coaches and so we now have to pick another lad, but over the last few years we have put a few of the lads through coaching courses, so that should be easy.
Today we won some more silverware as well, winning the Chan Shu Kui Memorial School Rugby 7's Tournament Invitation Rugby 7's Tournament and above is a picture of the boys with the cup. It was a very hot morning at Kings Park but with plenty of subs, we won all our matches apart from the first game, where most lads still seemed to mentally be in bed. Thanks to wins in all our other games, a couple by large margins, in the end we were able win the league comfortably on points difference. Hang Jai, who is just back from Portugal came and played. He picked up a sprained ankle to go with his broken nose, obtained in HK’s last match against Portugal, which we lost 47 – 21. Ken apparently picked up a cracked collar bone, so it was obviously quite a physical encounter. I am told all three played well, but as a team they appeared to be quite tired both physically and mentally. Hang Jai tells me the tour was great fun, even though they didn’t win a match. I have asked Ivan and Sures to interview our three participants for the Breakthrough website and I will share that with you later.

The Breakthrough v Old Boys game and awards dinner is now set for 20 June 2015, with a 4.30 KO at Tai Hang Tung and the dinner afterwards is at the Police Club. To add to the excitement we will select our new training T-Shirt. Some of the boys told me that my efforts were boring and so we invited the boys and girls to submit their own designs and have received six entries. So at the dinner we will have a vote and the most popular design will be our training T for next season. If anyone wants to join the dinner please le
t me know and of course all are welcome for the match. I should also mention that the Old Boys told me that we should play for a cup and so I have just ordered “The Tarrant Trophy” and I resisted the urge to go for the 3 foot tall cup that the shop stocked!
Other upcoming action includes a trip to Macau on 27 June to participate in the Macau U19 Tens and in July we have U16 and U19 matches against some UK schools who are passing through on their way to Australia and New Zealand. We are joining forces with Kowloon and there will be matches on 10, 13, 19 and 21 July 2015. Our summer recruitment course for kids who have never played rugby before starts in July as well, so there is plenty happening.
