Operation Breakthrough's continued engagement with youth-in-need

In partnership with Hong Kong Outward Bound, Operation Breakthrough put 22 young people through a tough two-day adventure training course in Sai Kung between 9th – 10th April 2021.

Two police volunteers, SPC 45256 (TWDIST) and PC 10591 (KTDIST) were embedded in the programme to guide, encourage and motivate the young people. After the challenging two days one participant reflected;

“They were two happy and unforgettable days. The rain added to the challenges, but camping and wild fire cocking were new experiences for most of us, not to mention not being able to use our mobile phones! The physical tasks challenged our bravery, teamwork and mental limits, however we all overcame and completed the course. We all learnt a lot about ourselves and it was good to be looked after by the staff and the two accompanying police officers who kept us disciplined and focused”.

In the coming summer similar courses will be held, with plans for a nine-day challenge in the pipeline. Should any serving or retired police officers wish to join the children on this adventure and want to volunteer with any other of Operation Breakthrough programmes please contact ddc-smp-dist@police.gov.hk or kityuen@police.gov.hk.
